Francis Avenue Gardens | Koreatown Neighborhood, Los Angeles CA | 1999-2009

Upon invitation from the ARCO Foundation, Ward was invited to work with Hoover Elementary School (LAUSD) and the Elder Care Center of the First Unitarian Church to create a garden for urban farming and community gatherings. The 7,500 sq. ft. lot featured a small fruit orchard and was further developed into sections of raised beds in which community members grew vegetables. Ward brought in graduate student collaborators from SCI-Arc who designed and built signage for the site. Today, Francis Avenue Gardens is managed by the Los Angeles Neighborhood Land Trust.
